I also signed up for the sole purpose of asking for this back. I first used FoxIt because it was lightweight, had no automated updates, had infrequent updates and had the classic menu. There is no longer value for me as none of these features exist for FoxIT.

Ribbon is a failed experiment - universally agreed as programming for the lowest common denominator, slowing down users and in general being a frustration. If you made the decision to go 1 menu rather than 2, wouldn't "evidence based decisions" dictate that you at least ask your user base which they would prefer? I've had enough of features I don't use, frequest updates, updates I don't want, and this Ribbon, which although is being phased out of most apps appears to now be the only option in FoxIT. For goodness sake - read the 16 pages of feedback. We don't want Ribbon, we never have and we never will.

Ribbon is not a mistake. It's a joke.

I also signed up specifically to comment on this. I've had my updates turned off for 2 years since a co-worker installed Foxit at my suggestion and I discovered there was no longer any way to display a classic toolbar instead of the horrid, horrid ribbon. (BTW thanks to the person who mentioned LibreOffice, I'm definitely checking that out.) I hope Foxit will reconsider this decision!

Two whole years, and Foxit still refuses to fix its huge, glaring bug and give users a minimum of basic functionality? Fuck them, I'm switching to Sumatra or xChange.

Any news on making Foxit more user friendly? Or are we still to expect growing (seldom used) bloating and screen clutter (Ribbon)? Really a shame as Foxit was so useful.

If this is a cost issue, I would be willing to pay for "good" FoxIT version - classic menu and cut down features. until then I'm running SumatraPDF. Thanks to YOUR forum here, I've found the lightweight, classic menu product I was after. Please forward every last one of the 17 pages of negative only feedback as evidence for the next decision on user experience. If your product team read every single response they might be swayed into the realisation they are actually wrong and Ribbon was actually a mistake.

Looking at the date on the last couple of posts, I guess that the current version still cannot revert to the classic style?
If that is still the case I won't bother even trying it - I would just have to re-install my old version.

Sorry to say that classic toolbar is no longer available in latest version. Maintaining two toolbar modes always require more human resources and workload. The classic mode may be phased out in the future considering more and more people get used to the Ribbon mode. May I know what the chief obstacle is for you to swtich to the Ribbon mode? Thank you.

It is not true that it requires "more human resources and workload" to main two toolbar modes. It is trivial. The functions are there; it simply requires having two hooks (e.g. Menu item and Toolbar icon). Clearly, the real reason is that management has made a decision to follow the crowd. I think most users would prefer that the developers focus on core functionality and adding value there.

I am afraid that currently our developers still doesn't have the plan to add back the classic toolbar now. The classic toolbar mode may be phased out in the future considering more and more people get used to the Ribbon mode. You may feed that it is uncomfortable to use the ribbon toolbar now. Once you get used to it, you'll find ribbon toolbar is way much better than the classic toolbar just like those users who likes Ribbon toolbar mode. Thank you.

The point of many users here is that there is no substantial value add with the ribbon toolbar. All it does is change where a user clicks (which must be relearned); at the end of the day the user is still clicking on an item (menu or icon) to perform a function.

The other important point for many users is that the ribbon uses a lot of screen area. While the ribbon can be hid or used with auto-hide, a simple menu bar and document is very user friendly and does not require the user to waiting on features reappearing or tooltips.

Sorry to say that we don't have the plan to bring it back, you can hide it with CTRL+F11, or you can open pdf file in Read mode to get rid of the ribbon. Anyway, we will forward your feedback to our PM team for references.

That's fine. It means that many of us will not pay for future upgrades. Will stick with 7.2.8, until Foxit changes its position, or a competitor provides a product that the user wants. For whatever it is worth, the reason that many of us started using Foxit is that Adobe started adding a bunch of bloat or functionality that the user did not want.

I agree this opinion. I registered only to add my request to go back to classic toolbar.
I use the computers to work not to play. I use this program from many years, and I have to study to do things that we do from years... I have tried with one of my computer the new ribbon, but it is not easy and not comfortable to use it. I have looked for alternatives, but for the kind of work i do, i have not found. This is a very good and a complete program. So I'm very displeased of this unusefull idea of the ribbon. Now I use version 7.2.8 I hope Foxit change his position and i agree with: "Will stick with 7.2.8, until Foxit changes its position, or a competitor provides a product that the user wants."
Thank you anyway, and sorry for my not correct english.

Still no news on getting a functioning tool bar back. I like using Foxit but hate the ribbon bar. It is so clunky and inefficient. I just took the trouble to google "Foxit PDF Ribbon Menu" and still cannot find a single post where someone says they like the ribbon. Not a single one.

So where does Foxit get the customer feed-back that it is well liked?

I can only conclude that for some obscure reason Foxit is going out of their way to design something to specifically piss off their users. If someone has any other idea why they would do this please let me know. It certainly cannot be that they think it is better.. perhaps they are trying to sell themselves to Microsoft and are sucking up to them. Who knows. There has to be a good reason.

May I remind you... I cannot find a single positive comment on the internet. Not one. So there could not have been any user testing..

So, still no option to switch back to classic toolbars from the gimmicky ribbons? I'm stuck on version 7.2.8 for months now and since that version sometimes crashes when opening multiple documents I have no other option but to switch to some alternative. Foxit Reader was my #1 choice when it comes to PDF viewers, because it used to be fast, minimalistic and reliable. Sadly that has changed, so...

...it's time to say Thank you and goodbye to Foxit,

    Welcome SumatraPDF!
