Foxit Reader free - PDF printer disappeared

Hello everybody,
The PDF printer installed by Foxit Reader on my Windows 8.1 pc has disappeared after a while.
Re-installing Foxit Reader didn't solve the problem.
What can I do to in order to restore the (very useful) PDF printer?

Many thanks for this. I had the same problem as the OP, and like them had already tried reinstalling from the Foxit site without it resolving the problem. Your alternative file did the trick.

Mind, I'm still not sure what caused this issue, and wonder whether it might recur? I was a little wary to run the updater after re-installing - in case it brought the problem back - but am happy to report that after reinstalling from your file I ran the updater without problems, and am now running Foxit Reader v 9.7.2.29539 WITH the pdf printer safely restored and fully functional.

Anyway, I really just created an account to say thanks Richell!

Dornroschen ,Thanks for your post. Foxit Reader V9.7.2 is the last version with Foxit Reader PDF Printer included,Foxit Reader PDF Printer has been removed in V10 already since all of features for creating PDF files in Foxit Reader have all disabled in Foxit Reader V10.
To have Foxit Reader PDF Printer retained on your computer,please keep on using Foxit Reader V9.7.2 ,not upgrade it to a newer version or you may also choose to use our Foxit PhantomPDF which is a more powerful PDF application with Foxit PhantomPDF Printer contained.

Thanks Lisa, that's useful to know! May I ask why you have removed such a useful feature, thus discouraging us from updating to the latest version? Is it to force those who want to create PDF files to use a paid-for solution, or for some other reason?

I suspect it is the current financial challenge brought in by this COVID-19 pandemic to Foxit software company. See my other reply in another thread. They have to survive the pandemic, Foxit software company is not resource-rich as Adobe, otherwise they won't do such user base killing move.

Makes me re-think about using foxit in the future without the printer.

And I'm annoyed they did not tell me and I wasted half a day looking for that printer

Hi all,

We highly apologize for any hassle and inconvenience this may cause for you. When check for updates with Foxit Reader or install updates for Foxit Reader or install V10 to overwrite older version, you will get the message as the attached screenshots on the the removal of Foxit creator .
Foxit creator component has been removed in Foxit Reader 10 since our product marketing team redefined the purposes of Foxit Reader,it is mainly used to view PDF files,so the creating PDFs feature was deleted,the Foxit Reader 10 release no longer supports the create PDF feature, which includes Foxit Reader PDF Printer, Foxit Creator add-ins for Office, scan to PDF feature.
If this capability is required for your workflows, may I advise you to try one of the below options?
1. You can uninstall Foxit Reader V10 and install back Foxit Reader V9.7.2 which is the last version with Foxit
creator feature contained. Following is link for downloading Foxit Reader V9.7.2:

One less reason for suggesting FoxIT PDF reader. I too spent an hour looking for what happened to this printer on a friend's computer until I discovered it too was missing from my computer.

DO you really think people who were using the free version of your FREE FoxIT PDF Reader are actually going to spend $15 a month subscription or $191 outright purchase to create PDFs?

PS it is not wise to tell people to stick with an old version of a PDF reader as we all know PDF readers do have security vulnerabilities that are patched in newer version. This includes FoxIT!

It's a bad move IMHO... Many "free" users will turn towards another tool, thus dramatically decreasing you audience!

Hi, If pdf printer is no longer available, how come it appears on the setup to be installed?? That's just absurd!! There's an option to install pdf creator with office files and another one to make it the default system printer! I guess I'll just have to go for another free pdf reading and printing software...

Petux ,We apologize for the trouble. Foxit Creator related options should have all been removed in installation wizard too. For the issue that you are still able to see the options "install PDF creator with office files" and "Set Foxit Foxit Reader as the default PDF viewer",we can not replicate it on our part,so we still need your help to provide with us the following information:
1:Your OS information(e.g.windows 10x64bit).
2:How did you install Foxit Reader V10 when you could see those options you mentioned? Did you upgrade to V10 from old version by checking the update in Foxit Reader, or you uninstalled the old version firstly before you downloaded and installed V10?
If the answer is the latter,please give us the URL link where you downloaded it or the full name of the installer package.
