  • GPU usage on Mac OS

Updating to Foxit Reader latest version I noticed that my computer switches to my NVDIA GPU instead of using the integrated one on my CPU like it used to before.
I specifically liked Foxit as I can just view PDFs and read through my notes without worrying about my battery life.

Now, as there is literally no setting to disable GPU usage I'm considering alternatives.

Any help on how to solve it? I like Foxit as it's lightweight and fast.

    Thanks

Sorry for the trouble. Please let me know the version of Mac OS and send us the screenshot of GPU usage.

Does it happen to any pdf files? If it happens to a specific file, please send us the sample for internal test.If it is inconvenient to upload here, you may email the PDF document to [email protected] with the subject"Lyndi Atten". Thank you in advance.

I'm on the latest MacOS 10.15.5 (Catalina).
My issue is that the version from your website (4) causes my Mac to switch to GPU graphics.
This doesn't happen with the Mac AppStore version (2.4)

This is what's happening with the AppStore version:
Click image for larger version Name:	Screen Shot 2020-07-04 at 21.21.45.png Views:	0 Size:	10.8 KB ID:	178652

This is what's going on with the version from your website:
Click image for larger version Name:	Screen Shot 2020-07-04 at 21.24.25.png Views:	0 Size:	10.5 KB ID:	178654

As you can see, the version from your webpage just triggers the switch to the GPU graphics.

This ultimately drains the battery as the GPU is in use which makes viewing PDF files on the go an issue.

      Thanks

bolaros ,At present, most popular applications supports the GPU acceleration in order to improve the rendering documents speed and some other performance,so our Dev team also have enabled the GPU acceleration since V4.0 of Foxit Reader for MAC.
In addition, according to your request,I have also submitted the suggestion"Support to disable the GPU usage on Foxit Reader for MAC" to our product management team's reference with suggestion ID#MACLNX-9961.

I am aware of GPU acceleration but it always have a way to enable/disable it. Thanks for submitting it to the dev team.
