dooshra ,We apologize for the trouble. Our existing version of Foxit Reader for Linux's OS requirements are as folllows:
    Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 ~ 16.10
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6.x (64-bit) ~ 7.x
    SUSE 12 Linux Enterprise Server
    OpenSUSE 13.2
    OpenSUSE Leap 42.x
So it doesn't support Ubuntu 20.04.
In addition, due to human resources limited, our developers have stopped fixing issues and developing new features for Foxit Reader for Linux. But our Dev team will We will produce a brand-new version of Foxit PDF Editor for Linux which will be based on our existing Foxit PDF Editor for windows desktop to be a substitute version of the current one.

Currently,we suggest you try out our Foxit Reader for windows desktop if you have another device which runs windows OS(windows 7,windows8 or windows 10). Please download it from our official download center below:

I was having the same problem.
              Doing the following fixed it:

Start Foxit without opening any pdf file. Go to Edit --> Preferences. Go to Updater and uncheck. Go also to General and Disable ConnectedPDF features. I haven't tested if only one step would be sufficient.

Please continue supporting foxit reader on Linux, it's the best per my experience and throw the rest alternatives in the dust. Please charge it as a commercial product if needed.

All the open source alternatives, okular(KDE based, not working well under Gnome, plus has some important bugs), evince(no tab support), mupdf(too simple, no annoation) are not as good as foxitreader when it comes to tab support, annotation, etc.

I use Linux for 20 years, and I approve this statement

Thanks for your feedback on this. The existing Foxit Reader for Linux has already been discontinued. Our Dev team have stopped implementing any new features/capabilities or releasing new version that includes the fix of non-security bugs for the existing Foxit Reader for Linux.
Anyway, I have also submitted your feedback to our product management team and suggest our Dev team develop a brand-new version of Foxit Reader for Linux to be a substitute version of current one.

The existing released version of Foxit Reader for Linux only supports the following systems:
                    Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 ~ 16.10
                    Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6.x (64-bit) ~ 7.x
                    SUSE 12 Linux Enterprise Server
                    OpenSUSE 13.2
                    OpenSUSE Leap 42.x

Also, if you're interested, I would encourage you to try with the Foxit PDF Editor Cloud which requires no installation, you could use it as long as you have a browser installed, in regardless of the OS you're using.

gshawn you can use PDF Studio Viewer on Linux. It has the same features as Foxit, and it can open multiple window. I have used it to replace Foxit for 2 years and had no trouble.

I can confirm this is the software automatic update option that solves the problem.

cherry At least that problem should be solved to make the Linux package convenient to avoid users frustration and getting away from Foxit as some said before, this is the best one I've ever tested.

Thanks for your support and hoping our calls get answer :-)
