I researched FOXIT when the Adobe problems came out. I was very happy with the speed and features, and mentioned it to a couple friends.
Today when a notification popped up in my toolbar saying Foxit needed an update, for security reasons, I clicked on it, read the reasons, went back to the Foxit PDF software and updated via that tool internally, the basic software, and reader. There was NO disclosure of third party applications malware, and no option to elect to approve or deny a third party app, or anything remotely called Foxit Cloud.
Fortunately ESET Nod32 caught it, before it fully installed the programs, but I found the Foxit Cloud service runnning in the windows trouble shooter extended services. WTF!
I tried to uninstall the basic program thru the windows control panel, which launched the Foxit uninstall tool, but it said it finishied but without all elements, and some would be done manually.
So I had to patiently go online and reseach various forums, where others have been complaining for months about the new Open Candy malware installer. I patiently installed Malwarerebytes and double checked nothing found.
FOXIT Marketing Geniuses- I hope the money was worth it, because once burned, twice shy- you wasted an hour of my time on my home laptop, and now I need to uninstall from my work laptop, and wifes- where I thought I was being wise getting rid of security issues from Adobe. Instead, I have opened myself up to malware, third party apps, and apparently processes running in background that are not even described in your setup program.
