  • FAQ Foxit Reader preferences

Hi, I'm a new Foxit Reader user and I have been tweaking my preferences and toolbars. Is there a preferences or ini file that I can backup and restore later as needed?
I could not find one. Perhaps all preferences are stored in the registry?

    Thanks,

In order to backup Foxit Reader 6 or Foxit Reader 7 settings/preferences/customization/history etc. you need to export and import this registry entry:

      For Foxit Reader 6:

      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader 6.0

      For Foxit Reader 7:

      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader 7.0

Tested and works fine on Foxit Reader v6.2.3.815 d2014-08-20 and Foxit Reader v7.1.0.0306 d2015-03-09

This is silly, the signatures that were created are saved somewhere in the program folders but all other settings are in the registry? To make things worse every update to the program resets the tool bar setting and i have do organize all over again. I would say an import/export feature should seriously be considered..... and retention of tool bar setup when updating.

In the new release 7, we offer users an option asking users if they want to remove registry data or not, so the most settings can be kept if users choose No.
You can also export your settings before update then import the exported registry so your settings will be kept.
What kind signature do you mean that saved in the program folders, do you mean stamp or pdf sign? Do you mean the signatures will be delete after upgrading to new release?

Was there any progress made regarding this topic in the last years and multiple releases?
Using Foxit Reader Version: 9.0.1.1049, Win10. Would like to avoid using registry entrys, additionally import/export across OS would be nice (for me, I'm using Foxit also on Ubuntu).

Preferences settings data is stored in the registry. To transfer to another computer, you may need to export the registry then import the registry. The registry directory: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader 9.*"

To transfer the customized toolbar setting to another computer, please right-click on blank area of the toolbar to open "Customize Quick Access Toolbar" >"Customize Ribbon" >"Export" to export a "RibbonCustom.xml" file. This file includes all the customized toolbar settings. Then you could open the same dialog in other computer, click "Import" then browse to select this .xml file to import.

The info above is applicable for Windows OS only. Foxit Reader for Linux is not supported for now. Thank you.
