  • crash Firefox 11 and 12 plugin crash after most recent update

    Hi,
Have just done an update to the latest version of FR (5.3.0.0423) and any attempt to open PDFs via the Firefox plug-in causes it to crash with the "plugin container has stopped working" error message. It has done this with both Firefox 11 and the latest version of 12. It did not have any problems with the previous version of FR.
Besides re-installing and using the previous version, any suggestions?
    Cheers

UPDATE: Also does not work with Firefox 13

Please help to check the following items:
1.Please make sure you have selected "Display PDF in Brower". (Please open foxit reader. go to "Tools"->"preferences"->"File Association"->check the option"Display PDF in Brower" ->click"ok" to save the setting.)
2.Please make sure your firefox plugin version is 2.0.0.1102(Please open firefox browser ,go to"Tools"->please enable foxit reader plugin for mozilla 2.0.0.1102.)
3.Please run firefox, go to tools->options->application, find PDF document, see which action is selected. (Normally it shall be Foxit Reader plugin, but if Adobe is installed, will be Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)). And go to Tools/Addons/Plugins, be sure Foxit Plugin is enabled.

      1) It was selected on installation and remains selected now
      2) The old version of foxit was uninstalled (by the foxit reader) before the latest one was installed so it is the latest version
      3) Foxit plugin is enabled, Acrobat has never been installed on this machine

      Crashing remains

I'm seeing exactly the same problem - the Firefox plugin crashes (after a long delay), without ever displaying the PDF. No problem in Chrome.

        1. Ditto - that setting is selected.
        2. Plugin version is 2.2.1.417
        3. Foxit is chosen as the application for PDF's - no Acrobat on the machine. Screenshot from Firefox options attached.

        Additional info: Win7/64, Firefox 12.0.

More info: it's a problem only on some web sites. Bringing up a tax form on irs.gov, for example, works fine. But trying to open a statement on my Schwab brokerage account fails. Not sure what's different about them - the only obvious thing is that the Schwab site opens a new browser window for the PDF, rather than opening it in the same tab. I'll see if I can find a site where it fails, that doesn't require giving you access to my finances!

Same problem here... Win7-64/FireFox 12.0. Here's a page that causes it...

Oh, yes, that link produces the familiar symptoms! Glad you could find one - other than my Schwab account statements, I haven't been able to dig up any that fail. Every other site from which I normally get PDF's is working fine.

            FWIW, same result under Win7/32.

"The Foxit Reader for Mozilla plugin has crashed."

After upgrading to Foxit Reader 5.3, Foxit Reader plugin for Firefox started crashing whenever the web site opened the PDF via a new Firefox window/tab. (Win7/64, Firefox 12.0)

Uninstalled Foxit Reader 5.3, rebooted, and re-installed Foxit Reader 5.1.

Using Foxit Reader 5.1, Foxit Reader plugin for Firefox works perfectly.

Many thanks for all your reports and Sorry for this inconvenience. The issue"unable to open PDF file from hotmail in firefox browser" has been reproduced in Firefox. I will forward this issue to our developer team for further processing.

Currently, please try other browser like IE to open your hotmail message or try to disable firefox plugin in your fiefox browser before you open PDF file in hotmail.
To disable firefox plugin ,please go to "Tools"menu in firefox borwser>"Add-ons">"Plugins">please disable "foxit reader plugin for Mozilla" there.

                    Hi gunjin,

The problem should have been fixed according to the feedback we got. Please uninstall your existing version then download a new installer 5.3.1.0606 from our website and give it a try. Thank you.

Sorry, but with 5.3.1.0606, trying to view a statement on my Schwab account produces exactly the same "long delay, PC completely locked up, finally get an error message about Foxit" problem as it did before. No problem if I choose to download the PDF, then view it in Foxit. It's opening it in the browser (FF 13.1) that causes the crash. And the link posted by Jay K, above, still produces the same crash.

I have just installed the latest version and tested it on an HTML linked PDF file in an email. Firefox (latest version) launches and then immediately crashes with the same "plugin container has stopped working" error message as before. Nothing fixed it would appear.

                          Hi EarlyOut and gunjin,

Please access the installation folder of Foxit Reader (By default it is:'C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader\plugins') then right-click on 'npFoxitReaderPlugin.dll'->'Properties'->'Details' to check the version and send to me.

                          @junjin,
May I have the mentioned HTML link of the PDF file that you encountered the problem? What is your OS and bits info?

I'm having the same exact issue. Uninstalled Foxit reader- reinstalled- still having issue- and have most current plug-in version.
