  • Tabs and Multiple Windows

I see that I can enable multiple instances of Foxit PDF Reader. When the option is enabled any PDF I open from the file itself will open in a new instance. PDF's I open through Foxit itself are still able to open as new Tabs inside of an already running instance.

My question is this, is there a way to move tabs between instances. As in, is it possible to do what internet browsers can do, and drag a tab from one window to another? Or are tabs "stuck" in the instance they open in? I like being able to have multiple instances, but I also like to be able to open files from folders, etc, and have them open in my already running window, or at least move them after it opens.

    Hi mmcnulty0531,

Thanks for the feedback. I've forwarded your comments as suggestion to Reader PM team for processing. Suggestion ID#: READER-2094.
One more thing, could you please send more details about "I also like to be able to open files from folders, etc, and have them open in my already running window"? Thank you.

      Hi,

I see this suggestion is 3 years old, and I have the same request. I wonder if anything was ever done with this?
to clarify my requirement: I use the "allow multiple instances" option, to divide my many open tabs to different Foxit Reader windows, categorizing them by project. However, the drawback is that Foxit Reader now opens every new file in a new window by itself, both when the file is opened through Windows Explorer and when it's opened from the browser (I don't use the browser's built-in reader). Only by opening files from one of foxit's windows directly, can I force it to be a tab in that window.

This is cumbersome, I would have liked that new files open in the last used Foxit window. this would be in line with how other applications behave.

is it possible by now? if not, please consider this a feature request.

          thank you!
is there a public issue-tracker system of some sort, where I can input this suggestion ID in the future and see if it was implemented?

Nope. Currently the issue-tracker system is for internal usage only. But you can email to [email protected] any time when you need the update of your reported issue by providing the ID#. Thank you in advance for your kind understanding.

I also agree with this suggestion- to have chrome/firefox tab dragging functionality would help a lot. Has this been given to the development team already?

I really need the ability to drag TABS into separate windows. The option to allow multiple instances is OK, but I want my PDF's to open in tabs by default with the ability to drag a tab out to a new window, it should operate exactly like Chrome or another PDF program I won't mention...

                  Thanks,
                  John

Per Report ID# PHANTOM-4176, We're working on this new feature and have planned to add the new feature to version 9.2. If everything goes well, we should be able to see this new feature in version 9.2. Thank you.

That's great news. Where can I lookup reports? Also is there a version 9.1 in the development pipeline? Could help give an indication on a time frame.

                      Thanks,
                      John

The feature quest was submitted to Foxit internal features tracking system and it is an internal system which is not open for the public for now. We're now beta testing version 9.1.0 and it could be available in one week or two if everything goes well. We cannot guarantee when version 9.2.0 could be released, it was planned to be available in July.

                        Thank you.
