I think this is a regular problem with pdf format and this error appears so common now. The solutions here are working great for me and hope to see any updates in this regard. Thanks for sharing this platform.

Solved, finally.
First of all, installing new versions, as suggested earlier, did not make any difference. I am on 6.0.3.x and still had that error, so nothing changed since 5.x mentioned earlier. After wasting countless hours looking for a solution, I accidentally discovered it. Simply go to File / Preferences / File Associations, make sure all checkboxes are unchecked, and click "Make Default PDF Viewer" and then "Restore File Associations" buttons. Hit "OK" to close, and retry your download in the browser. I'm using IE10 and it now works perfectly.
