  • Bug Auto-updade silently installs extra software, overrides user choices

I got a popup to update Foxit Reader on Win7 to v5.3.1.0606 yesterday and after finishing the process (which did not offer me any options), I was appalled to realise it had

    1. Installed the Foxit/Ask.com toolbar in all of my browsers without asking me!
    2. Changed my preferences from "DO NOT open PDFs in the browser" to "DO open PDFs in the browser".

This is extremely annoying and there are already a few people on Twitter sharing how pissed off they are.

Please respect your users' choices in the future and DO NOT, ever, install stuff without asking. You're bordering adware behaviour here.

Agreed. Just uninstall the adware and foxit, then configure chrome to load up PDF's from the O/S.

We highly apologize for this trouble and hassle. This is a mistake in our server side settings. We have disabled the ask toolbar auto installing as soon as we were aware of it. But so sorry it turns out it's too late.

Please take a moment to uninstall the Ask toolbar with the instructions as following. Again ,sorry for this inconvenience and Foxit appreciate your support.
