  • Bug Comments: Text box preferences

    Hi!

I often use the commenting feature, which makes working with PDF files quite functional. But there's a problem with non-rectangular text boxes. E.g.: I create a Box which is very wide and small in hight cause there's a long text inside. When I want to edit the text inside, the box always sets itself back to a rectangular form using the width as its side lengths. This can create a huge rectangular of such a size that it rarely fits on the page or moves to the upper or lower border of the page...

Is there a possibility to stop this behaviour? I just haven't found an option...

    Thanks in advance!

    Alex

By default, it will enter into new line when you type some texts so if you want to type some long sentence, it will be divided into several lines, but you want to display it as only one long line, correct?
If yes, you can select the Annotation Selection tool on the toolbar, then put it on the textbox you made and drag its length whatever you like.

I already had the wide text box. My problem is that it always sets its form back to RECTANGULAR, which means that its not only very wide but VERY HIGH, too. I don't want that.

        Hi Knorky,

When we drag a text box in Foxit Reader 5.3.1.0606, the height of the text box will become higher than we dragged. Is this the problem you're talking about? Please help to confirm, I'll then report the problem for processing.

This also happens to me. This has also been reported here (http://forums.foxitsoftware.com/show...-automatically).

I have been using foxit reader for years and I love it! But this bug has been very frustrating to use (only present in the current software version). Any idea on when we might get an update that fixes this? Thanks so much!

Yes, thank you. This is the same problem I have and it's really frustrating if you work a lot with Textboxes, which are quite usable in general.: http://forums.foxitsoftware.com/show...-automatically

              awkward text boxes

I'm new to the forums, and I haven't yet tried the info I've picked up today, but here is my current workaround: I get inside the too-long box and insert some "carriage returns" [remember typewriters? ] then look at the results. Usually I can make it usable that way.

Add textboxes: I d/l 5.3.1.0606 yesterday and installed it. It fixed some problems I was having for which I couldn't find answers here. I did notice that, based on Q/A here, the versions might be OS-sensitive. I'm using Xp- because I'm a humble, undemanding kind of guy , and .0606 suits me just fine. E.g. I'm able to adjust my texboxes to fit in just about any convenient corner of the page. So, some of you might have more success with another, older version; in any case try playing with the bars. BTW when I select TextBox, Helvetica pops up, and I reset it to 9 pt. That's the smallest size used in newspaper publishing, where the idea is to minimize the editorial sq. in. in favor of the ads.

I am using Foxit Reader version 5.4.5.0114 on Windows XP and still I am having the same problem. But I figured out that the problem only occurs when the page is oriented horizontally (landscape).

To describe the bug again: Using horizontal page layout, adding a text box or a note, the text box will always extend to a square. So it doesn't accept "wide" textboxes :-)

In vertical / portrait layout, everything works perfectly fine!

I guess it should be easy to fix this issue! Thanks in advance.
