  • Bug Foxit Reader will not download pdf files in FF 16.0.2 browser

Running XP Pro SP3, Avast 7.0.1466 Free, Online Armor 6.0.0.1736 Free

Running Foxit Reader Free, no add-ons, all default settings, Foxit version 5.4.3.0920.

When at a web site, (does not matter which one, this applies to all) link to pdf file will appear in url and nothing happens. I have left the window alone for as long as fifteen minutes, no dice OR I will see the download bar and green arrow in action and no pdf file appears. The second option occurs much less often than the first.

Also noted, when install as Admin, no start menu shortcut was made in limited user account. Almost always use limited user account to open web-based pdf files.

Two days ago, web-based pdf downloading stopped working, so missing the program shortcut was not an issue before then.

If you wish, I can provide a .jpeg of the browser window when this happens in my next reply.

1.Please reinstall Foxit Reader 5.4.3 and install firefox plugin and check ""display pdf in browser"" by default.
2.After installing it, please run Foxit Reader to make sure you have selected "display pdf in browser" under Edit->preferences->File Association.
3.Please run firefox, go to tools->options->application, find PDF document, see which action is selected. (Normally it shall be Foxit Reader plugin, but if Adobe is installed, will be Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)). And go to Tools/Addons/Plugins, be sure Foxit Plugin is enabled.

      Hi,

Everything works as you said it would. Odd thing there, that it would just stop working.

Thank you. BTW, seems mutliple spammers paid a visit here two days ago and today. New here, is this normal?

Yes, there are some spams here, we have deleted them and taken some action to prevent it.

I couldn't get plugin 2.2.1.530 with 6.4.3.920 to work either. I finally did.

          Windows 7 64bit FR 5.4.3.920 Plugin 2.2.1.530

This seems weird but it worked. I use two uninstallers because of 32bit 64bit. IOBit uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller.

          1. Run Revo using advanced as their will be a lot of entries not removed by Foxit. Pause after Foxit uninstaller and before allowing advance portion to run.
          2. Run IOBit and run powerfull scan and delete remaining entries.
          3. Switch back to Revo and run the advanced part of the uninstaller deleting all remaining entries and files.
          4. Install version Foxit 920

Don't know why this works but it does. In the past just using Revo the plugin wouldn't work. Strange since there was no Foxit entry in Program Files (64bit).

Perhaps someone at Foxit can figure this out. I think their uninstaller needs fixing. Doesn't do a full uninstall and leaves pieces of old version in registry that screws things up.

          Good luck.
