  • Feature Make highlighted Text extractable for "Docear"

    Hello,

I am one of the developers of "Docear" which is a literature management suite. Among others, Docear can import PDF bookmarks in a mind map (each PDF bookmark equals a node in the mind map). Right now, Docear can import bookmarks and comments created with Foxit Reader but no highlighted text. We would therefore like to request that Foxit is creating highlighted text in a way Docear can extract it (we are using the JPod library to extract information from PDFs)

Docear already can extract highlighted text created with PDF Readers such as PDFX Change Viewer. Look at this screenshot: The text was highlighted with Foxit Reader. When you move the mouse over it, only the user name is displayed (Docear).

This text was highlighted with PDF XChange Viewer. If you move the mouse over it, the highlighted text is shown in a popup window and actually Docear can extract this text.

However, this also works in PDF X Change Viewer only, if the feature on this screenshot is activated.

I would like to request a feature similar to the one from PDFXChange Viewer which enables Foxit Reader to copy highlighted text into popup comments. This way, Docear could extract the information from the PDF. Currently, Docear (or better said SciPlore MindMapping, the successor of Docear) has several thousands of users. If Foxit would implement the feature as requested, I am sure Foxit could gain many hundreds of new users because we would recommend Foxit more prominently on our website.

    Best regards,
    Joeran

P.S: You can download the example PDF here.

Please add this feature in Export Comments Data too.
I would like to be able to export highlights/citations from the ebooks or other longer documents. Currently, export only shows that there is highlight on specific page, but not the text itself, which is quite useless. As a workaround I have to add a note on highlight at the moment but that isn't practical at all comparing to simple text selection and hotkey press.

I also read a lot of scientific papers just as the one on the screenshot in the above request and it would be invaluable to have paper highlights exportable for both professionals and students who do this kind of thing manually all the time.

Is anybody aware of any other way to do this (plugin, javascript etc...) ?

            Thx.

I use Foxit's pdf viewer for one specific reason to highlight text in pdf's. Just want to confirm the need for this compatibility with Docear.

Dear Developer, I also am using DOCEAR. Is it possible to include the ability to store highlighted text in a format Docear can read? I believe DOCEAR will attract a very large userbase because it is so flexible and powerful.

I really enjoy using Foxit reader due to its stability! Please improve the value further as soon as possible by storing highlighted text in a format that DOCEAR can read! Thanks a lot in advance!

+1 This features would be very useful to allow proper integration between Docear and Foxit.

In general I love your pdf reader, but I hope that you add this feature to Foxit reader. I am currently choosing between Foxit and PDFX Change Viewer, and whoever will first implement featurs needed for working with Docear, the one i will stick with.
