  • Bug cannot install due to prior installation

I went to update my foxit reader.

Downloaded the current files from foxit. Ran it and got the message: "Previous installation of Foxit Reader detected. You need to manually uninstall it before installing current version."

Went to Windows to uninstall foxit. It didn't show it as being installed.
Went to foxit folder on c: deleted foxit files.
    Ran 2 registry cleaners.
    Rebooted

Still get same message when I attempt to install foxit reader.

Can you advise me what I have to do to install the foxit reader?

It seems the files are not deleted completely, please do as follows:
1.Login your computer with administrator account and close any other program running on desktop.
2.Uninstall foxit reader from control panel.
3.Go to “start menu”->”run” to open the command run line, where input "regedit",
press Enter to open the Registry Editor. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader, delete the Foxit Reader folder there.
4.Following this link to download Foxit Reader 5.4.5.0114:

    and then install it.

      Hi richell_huang,
I was hoping your suggestion would work, but I still get the same error message. Foxit thinks its already installed and won't install again.

I deleted the registry folder. Rebooted. Ran the install program. No luck.

      Any other suggestions?

      Thanks for your help.

I went ahead and searched through the rest of the registry and found more foxit entries in several other areas. I deleted everything I found that said foxit and then ran the install program.

Foxit is now installed. Now all I have to hope is that the computer reboots properly.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I would not have made changes to the registry on my own.
