  • Feedback Foxit reader on terminal server?

    Hello,

I want to install the foxit reader on our terminal servers.
We now use the adobe reader, but it crashed multiple times per day while use the preview pane in server 2008R2.
foxit reader also goes blank sometimes, but if we reopen the folder it works again.

I installed the foxit reader and the foxit preview handler and this works perfect, however im installing this for +/-60 users and have some questions:

    - Can i somewhere completely disable the welcome wizard? i dont want users to get any pop-ups from program's
    - Can i somewhere set default settings for the reader? I dont want the share to facebook button (as we disabled access to facebook) and the internet search.
    - can i disable all options to update the program? this includes disabeling the auto update.

I already looked on the internet, but i cant find anything how the default settings can be changed. it looks like they are not stored in a registry key for all users but stored per-user.
is it possible to do this?

@denskie, you are right those settings are stored per-user in registry, but you can change settings in one computer, export the registry and write a script to export your settings to the left users.

If you are using the ERP Reader, the default settings you can configure are described in this thread:http://forums.foxitsoftware.com/show...2490#post12490

          Dear Community,

i also switched our Citrix servers from adobe reader to Foxit Reader.
the most recent version is installed. However many users experience the problem, that Windows DEP crashes Foxit, once you want to close it (especially, if a pdf-Document is opened from IE).
I tried to set Foxit as DEP exception, but windows won't let me do it

Do you have any idea, how i could solve this issue?

          Thanks
          BR Marc

Well, im only using 4 terminal servers and i don't like to do this via the registry.
I also have some problems with the pdf preview handler from Tim, it takes the focus of the screen so we cant view a file and press F2 to rename it.

To bad, it really works better the the abode reader

i have to serious issues with foxit (on terminal server) right now, so i hope it is okay to post them in this thread (if not i can also create new ones).

                1. If you copy a PDF-Document into a Word (2010 x86) file, it has no icon (when i used Adobe Reader, the Adobe Icon was visible).
You can still open the embedded PDF but you cannot see the anything, if you print it.

                2. I cannot set Foxit as DEP exception, and it is crashing all day, if one closes it...
I can set set other programs as exception, so i don't understand why it is impossible with Foxit Reader (OS = Windows Server 2008 x64 SP2)

                Any help is highly appreciated.

                Thank you in advance.

                Best regards
                Marc

How do you copy it?Do you mean you insert Foxit PDF as object into Word file? Please make sure you have selected "Display icon" under Insert->Object->New and choose Foxit Reader PDF Document

I apologize for the inconvenience. Regarding the DEP warning message you got ,it may be due to Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) blocking the foxit software.Regarding the reason why DEP blocked foxit software,we have escalated it to our QA team for further analysis. Reported ID:31073.
And we also need your help to provide the following info:\

                  1. A screen shot of the "Data Execuation Prevention."

                  Right click on My Computer

                  Click on Properties

                  Click on the Advanced tab

Click on the Settings button in the Performance section

Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab

                  2. A screen shot of the error when you close the PDF session.

                            Dear Foxit support,
We also would like to use foxit reader as default PDF viewer instead of Acrobat on our Terminal servers (Windows 2008 R2 64 bits, XenApp 6.5).
The problem is that Foxit reader crashes lot of times for every user (no problem when we use it on laptop with Windows 7).
Any enhancement to the support of Windows 2008 R2 will be greatly appreciated.
                            Fr

Sorry for the problem you encountered with Foxit Reader. Please double click on any pdf file with Foxit Reader, then go to
'Tools'->'Preferences'->'General'->uncheck 'Show Start Page' and see if it
                              helps.

                              and further proceed?
