  • Bug Foxit Reader not allowing formatted text on forms, even though Adobe is.

I recently created a fillable form with Foxit PhantomPDF, and set the text boxes so they can be formatted. But when I open the PDF in Foxit Reader it won't let me format any of the text. However, when I open the same PDF in Adobe reader, it allows me to format the text with no problem.

Is there a setting in Foxit Reader to allow formatting or something? It seems odd that Adobe would do this and Foxit wouldn't.

Bumping this, because of tremendous amounts of spam pushing problems off the bottom.

      Hi Thane Greyhaven,

Sorry for the spam. Could you please provide a copy of the form for taking a closer look at? Please also let us know your steps to format the text. If it inconvenient to upload the file here, please email a copy to [email protected].

Foxit Reader not allowing formatted text on forms, even though Adobe is.

I will have to email the form as it is over the 19k limit for attaching files, also I'm not sure what you mean by steps to format text. I type text in, and the format controls are greyed out in Foxit Reader. No controls for Bold text, Italicized or Underlined. I can't change the alignment either. These options ARE available in Adobe Reader however.

I was given access to the beta of a new version stating that it was able to perform this function, it is not. Here is the email I received with the link to the beta removed.
          Dear Gerry,

Thanks for your email. We noticed that the attached PDF form could be filled out correctly with our internal beta version of Foxit Reader 6.0. Following is link for downloading it:
          (link removed)
Please note that it is just our internal beta version for your testing, please keep it confidential and never distribute it to anybody.

          Thanks and best regards!

It did NOT allow me to format text in fields as I was told. When I submitted a bug report for that I was given the reply:

          Dear Gerry,

Thanks for your kind feedback. For the questions you reported:
          'Unable to format text in form text field': Sorry that currently text field object can only be changed from with Foxit PhantomPDF Standard or Business Edtion;

Hope info above helps. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

            Hi Thane Greyhaven,

Actually the form is interactive, the creator of the form has designated which font (type, size, .etc.) should be used. In this case, we need to use PhantomPDF(Standard or Business) to open the properties of the text field then change the font settings.

You mentioned that Adobe allows to change the format, may I know which tool did you use and a screenshot of the input? Thank you in advance.

[Bug] Foxit Reader not allowing formatted text on forms, even though Adobe is.

I'm using the standard Text Format tools, I'm attaching a screenshot, as you can see from example text, it shows normal, bold, italicized, underlined and a combination of the three. All the other text format tools are available as well. I can change font and alignment just as easily.

Sorry for the poor quality of the image, but with the 19k limit on attachments on files here, I didn't have much choice.
(P.S. I attached a PNG file, but it changed it to JPG? WTF?)

Oh, and you can easily test this out yourself you know. Adobe Reader is free, if a pain to install.

                  Hi Thane Greyhaven,

Thanks for the image. From the screenshot, I suspect the tool you're using is typewriter tool. In Foxit Reader, if you choose to use 'Helvetica' font to input as you did in Adobe, the bold and italize button will become active. Please give it a try.

Are you dense? Adobe doesn't HAVE a typewriter tool! Did you even test it out yourself? Do that and then make an intelligent reply. Go get Adobe, open up the form I sent, use the HAND tool to click into the field and lo and behold, you'll be able to format the text WHERE YOU CAN'T IN FOXIT READER. Quit screwing around and do your job properly.

                      Hi Thane Greyhaven,

Sorry that I mistake you were trying to use the typewriter as we can also input with typewriter tool. The typewriter tool is under 'Tools' menu of Adobe. Back to the formating text of the form we were discussing: Currently Foxit Reader doesn't support to format the text filled out in the form. We've forwarded this inquiry as suggestion to PM team so this feature could be added to the to-do list of Reader and inplemented in future versions as well.

Thank you and sorry for the misunderstanding between us.
