  • Language manual

    Hi,

    Is there something like a language manual available for those who are creating there own language .xml file for foxit reader?
    A reference guide that show the link between a line in the .xml file and the location in Foxit reader?

    It would also be nice to have a short expanation how what the special commands are that are available, how to use them and what they do.

    Grtz.

    Hi S.O.,

    Sorry there's not yet a guide available regarding how to create user's own .xml file. I summarized the info I gathered as following and hope it helps:
    1) Please access multi-language translation system from this link: http://languages.foxitsoftware.com/
    Then choose the version of Foxit Reader/PhantomPDF you're using and download the corresponding lang_en_en.xml file from the website;
    2) Please open lang_en_us.xml with NotePad and translate them to your language;
    3) Save this file as type "UTF-8" and rename the file name according to your language. E.g. If I need to translate into French, I need to rename the file name as mts_lang_fr_fr.xml.
    4) Switch the user interface with your own .xml file in Foxit Reader 7.x. Take French as an example, you need to browse to the installation directory of Foxit Reader (by default it is: "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit Reader"), then create a folder named "lang", then create a sub-folder "fr_fr", place the mts_lang_fr_fr.xml in the created sub-folder "fr_fr". After this, you may open Foxit Reader->go under "File"->"Preferences"->"Languages"->to switch to your language.

    (P.s. &amp in the language xml file can be displayed as a underscroll sign '_', in Foxit Reader when you press Caps Lock + Alt, you'll see the sign, and it is used to switch between menus. It can be deleted, but we suggest you'd better keep it. )

      I can not download the translation of Foxit Reader 7 automatically and even creating the folder and sub folder with the xml file it does not translate. I use Windows XP SP3 Pt-Br.

          Hi S.O.,

          The menu change or options addition is inevitable in future versions, which may cause the language file can not be used in future versions. So I would encourage you to translate from multi-language website then export your language file if you'd like and you could also share your translation with others. We don't recommend to download the language file and translate, because it may not be applicable to future versions. Your kind understanding is appreciated.

            Hi,

            I am aware of the multi-language translation page.
            I have noticed that some translations can not be made correctly because you don't know the exact location where it will be used.
            That is the added value in to make my own Language file.
            I see directly the result and can adjust it when the text is not good or needs a refrase.

            Can you tell me when the external language file support will end ?
            I am now working on a language document for myself, but if the XML language file support ends than I spend a lot of time for nothing.

            An other issue is that when there are corrections made in the language support, your development team has to create everytime a new version of the installation package.
            Is that something you development departments wants ? You don't have to answer this question but start the discusion in your company.
            This can create a lot of work for your customers.
            Some organizations doesn't allow updates without a thorough test procedure.
            An XML update is than less work for the customer.

            Have a nice day.

            S.O.

              Hi,

              Is there any news about the XML language files?
              How long it will be supported?
              Or do we have an end date when this will be removed?

              Have nice day.

              S.O.

                      S.O.

                      You could always download the language xml file from Foxit multi-language translation website. I think it will not be ended since all users could contribute to translation. All Foxit users could open the program then go under "File"->"Preferences"->"Languages"->check "Choose languages provided by the community" then switch the UI interface to their languages. Thank you.
